Access Information

The Old Courthouse Complex is a heritage-listed building dating back to the 1860s. We acknowledge that there are access challenges inherent in these historic buildings and planning is underway to address this.

Please don’t hesitate to ask friendly staff for assistance while you’re at the Old Courthouse Complex.

  • The Old Courthouse Complex

    The Old Courthouse Complex currently wheelchair access via the Exercise Yard, which leads into the cell complex, historic police station and day room as well as the original courtroom which is at present housing our gift shop.

    Wheelchair access is also available into the Bond Store which is an exhibition and function space. Please speak to onsite staff and volunteers for assistance, if required.

    Artist Studios

    The studio of the Artist in Residence is accessible by ramp for wheelchair users.

    Acting Up

    There is wheelchair access at the rear of the Acting Up studio.

    Busselton Art Society

    There is wheelchair access at the rear of the Busselton Art Society Gallery and Studios.

    Saltwater

    Saltwater is designed to be fully accessible and every space within the venue is accessible by wheelchair users, including a dedicated backstage dressing room and space for 13 wheelchairs within the main theatre auditorium.

  • Accessible toilet facilities are available in the Courtyard adjacent to the Art Society building.

    Changing Places Facility nearby

    There is a new state-of-the-art accessible Changing Places facility located 300 metres away from the Old Courthouse Complex in Signal Park at the Busselton Foreshore Precinct.

    The Changing Places facility is larger than standard accessible toilets and include features such as a height-adjustable adult change table, a tracking hoist system, and ample space for two caregivers to assist.

    These facilities are suitable for people with disabilities that severely limit mobility.

  • Staff are available to assist all who visit and are happy to tell true stories about the Old Courthouse Complex and answer any questions about the buildings and the fascinating history surrounding them.  

    The new audio visual installation in the Old Busselton Gaol, “Stories from the Cells” has plays audio stories of life in the cells, mischief, daring escapes and hardship.

    The Merenj Boodja garden provides a tactile experience from bush tucker of the region and is adjacent to the courtyard garden.

  • The complex has a parking lot behind the Merenj Boodja Garden, which has one accessible parking bay.

    There are additional accessible parking bays in the nearby Busselton Foreshore Precinct.
