Resistance & Resilience

Ceramic Sculptures by Rosemary Helmis

8 - 31 January 2026

In Resistance & Resilience, ceramic artist Rosemary Helmis explores the delicate tension between human-made convenience and the quiet perseverance of the natural world.

Drawing inspiration from repeated forms found in nature - spirals, growth patterns, weathered surfaces - Helmis highlights the intrinsic connection between clay and the living environment. Both are enduring yet vulnerable, shaped by pressure, time and circumstance.

Her sculptural works bring this paradox into focus: our desire to create objects of beauty and comfort, set against nature’s constant fight for survival. Everyday single-use items, designed for speed and disposability, are echoed in clay - prompting reflection on our reliance on convenience and the impact of excess production on ecological systems.

Through repetition, material honesty and subtle tension, Helmis invites viewers to consider where resilience ends and resistance begins: in the earth, in our habits, and in what we choose to value.
