Sea Glass marks Chloe Flockart's first-ever solo exhibition, bringing together an intensive twelve-month immersion in a new medium and a lifelong, deeply personal connection to the ocean. Inspired by the vibrant colours, rhythms, and patterns of coral reefs, kelp beds, and seagrass meadows from around the world, this body of work celebrates the beauty of our marine environments.

Originally a performing arts practitioner, Chloe began exploring working with glass in 2025 after seeing degradation of parts of the Great Southern Reef system. Originally making pieces of foamed glass, a technique which uses crushed cuttlefish bone to create pits and holes in glass, the intention was to create recycled glass pieces that could function as artificial reef. To ensure the artificial reef project’s success she began studying kiln forming glass to better understand glass’s quirks.

The pieces in this exhibition represent that 12 months of study, demonstrating the versatility of glass. Using a mix of recycled glass and art glass, exploring everything from frit work and casting to pate de verre, slumping, enamelling, and cold working, each piece captures the fluid interplay of light and water, and the fascinating patterns that repeat globally in our marine ecosystems. With a year of glass work experience she intends to travel overseas to work with a team in the Netherlands to help her develop large scale moulds for casting vibrant works from recycled glass that can be placed in shallow warm waters for marine life to thrive.
