In the Quiet of the Land

7 February – 1 March 2026

The City of Busselton invites locals and visitors to experience the beauty of the South West through the works of talented regional artists, with the opening of In the Quiet of the Land.

Running from 7 February to 1 March 2026 at Busselton’s Old Courthouse Complex, In the Quiet of the Land is part of the WA Regional Arts Triennial 3 (RAT 3).

This exhibition brings together 12 celebrated South West artists whose works reflect the region’s landscapes, seasons and lived experiences through diverse artistic mediums including painting, photography, ceramics, textiles, weaving, printmaking, natural dye, mixed media, and installation.

Artists featured include Gerald Ashcroft, Christian Fletcher, Merle Topsi Davis, Gary Hambleton, Melanie Jarman, Kay Manolas, Kim Perrier, Barbara Weeks, Francesco Geronazzo, Elaine Clocherty, alongside Waljin – Mitchella Hutchins and Dwardinan – Vivian Brockman Webb, whose collaborative installation connects culture, land and shared stories.

City of Busselton, Mayor Phill Cronin said it was inspiring to see the depth of artistic talent within the region.

“The creativity showcased in this exhibition is extraordinary, and I encourage the community to experience this celebration of art, land and culture,” Mayor Cronin said.

In the Quiet of the Land is a rare opportunity to witness the depth and diversity of local creativity, a true gift for the region!”

RAT 3 Guest Curator, Japneet Keith said the exhibition offers a contemplative, sensory journey where sands, water, wildflowers, shifting weather and expansive skies are carried into the work through material, process and memory.

“Working with regional artists, cultural custodians and the team at the Busselton Cultural Precinct to present In the Quiet of the Land is a great honour,” Ms Keith said.

“Together, the works explore resilience, transformation, sustainability, and the quiet intelligence of land and material.”

Set within the heritage-listed Old Courthouse Complex, visitors can explore the installations as they wander through some of Busselton’s oldest buildings.
