The Day Room
Built in 1861 by Henry Yelverton, the Day Room is part of the heritage-listed Old Courthouse Complex. Once the centre of Police administration, it was where charge sheets were written, daily rosters planned, and meals arranged for detainees. From ordering fodder for the horses, to later managing the police vehicles, this space was where all transport needs were overseen. Officers also managed the lock-up from this space and managed the movement of detainees through the complex.
Positioned between the Gaol Cells and the Police Station, this light-filled room now offers a striking contrast to its working past. Today, the Day Room is a unique venue, rich with character and history, providing an inspiring setting for exhibitions by emerging artists.
